

The English syllabus at Maynooth is a highly structured programme which over the course of three years, will provide a comprehensive survey of the discipline.
The First Year course will introduce students to principal literary genres - fiction, poetry, and criticism - and the special critical and methodological problems which pertain to each.
The Second Year Honours course provides a survey of major authors and topics from the Renaissance to the Romantic Period.
The Third Year Honours course provides a survey of major authors and topics from the early nineteenth century to modern times.
The Diploma in Arts (Drama and Theatre Studies) is a two-year part-time course offered to meet the needs oif mature students who have a special interest in the theatre, and who wish to expand their skills and knowledge of the theatre. The course combines theatre history and the study of individual dramatic texts with practical courses on stage design, lighting, performance and directing. Upon completion of this course, students will have a solid background in drama studies as well as a practical theatre skills base with which they can return to their communities.
